Privacy policy
Short version: the calculator runs in your browser, and what you type never leaves it.
What we don’t collect
The fee calculator is a piece of code that runs entirely inside your browser. The vehicle details you enter — price, year, county, trade-in value, how late you are — are used to do arithmetic on your own device. They are never transmitted to us, never written to a database, and never stored between visits.
We don’t ask for your name, email, address, licence plate or payment details, and there is no account to create. Unlike the official state tools, we don’t require a VIN either — there is an optional VIN decoder, explained below, but the calculator works fully without it.
The one exception: the optional VIN lookup
The calculator includes an optional VIN decoder. If — and only if — you type a VIN and press Decode, that VIN is sent to the NHTSA vPIC database, a free US government vehicle-information service, so we can fill in the year, type and weight for you. We do not store the VIN, we do not log it, and nothing else about you is sent with it. Skip the field and no request is made at all — the calculator works fully without it.
Analytics
We use privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics to understand which pages get used — page views, referring sites, approximate country, device type. This tells us which states to build next. It does not identify you and is never combined with anything you type into the calculator.
Cookies
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If we introduce advertising in future, this page will be updated before it goes live and any consent requirements will be honoured.
Links you copy
The “copy link to this estimate” button builds a URL containing the values you entered so you can reopen or share the same result. That link is generated on your device — we don’t receive it. Treat it like any other link: only share it with people you intend to see those figures.
Email you send us
If you email us — for example to report an incorrect fee — we keep that correspondence so we can act on it and, where relevant, publish the correction in our change log. We publish the corrected fee and its source, never your personal details.
Third parties
Our pages link out to official state agency websites so you can verify our numbers. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we have no control over them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — in particular if we ever add advertising — we’ll note it here and in the change log with a date.
